Police are investigating after a motorcyclist was found dead in a creek beside Otaika Valley Rd, Whangārei early this morning.
Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Shane Pilmer said the man’s motorbike was located on the side of the road.
“At this stage, the circumstances are being treated as unexplained and require further investigation.”
A section of SH15 would be closed between SH1 at Otaika and SH14 and Maungatapere for scene examinations.
Pilmer said locals needing to access their properties should approach uniformed staff at the cordon.
An inner cordon has also been placed around the scene itself.
Motorists reported seeing police vehicles and caution tape near a layby when Otaika Valley Rd was open earlier in the day.
The road is expected to be closed for some time today according to New Zealand Transport Agency Waka Kotahi.
Anyone who was travelling through SH15 at Otaika Valley Rd early this morning and saw anything has been asked to call 105 using reference number P061439912.
