Belief from former Black Cap Chris Cairns that Will Young should be playing over Devon Conway in New Zealand's test series against England.

The Central Districts batter - who was named player of the series in the historic 3-nil whitewash of India last month - made way for a returning Kane Williamson in the red-ball squad.

Cairns says coach Gary Stead made a rare error by axing Young.

The second test in Wellington begins on Friday.
